Promoting British Values
Our school’s actively promote fundamental values of: Democracy, The Rule of Law, Individual Liberty, Mutual Respect and Tolerance.
Democracy
We encourage children to become involved in decision-making processes and ensure that they are listened to in school through things such as class discussion,pupil questionnaires and the School Council.
We hold elections for the roles of School Councilors in each class. Children make a speech to their class to persuade them to vote for them. Two children are then elected to represent their class. The School Council plays a vital role in decision making, they have been involved in developing our playground, fundraising for our school as well as other charities. They also oversee the evaluation of assemblies.
The Rule of Law
The importance of laws and rules, whether they are those that govern the class, the school or the country, are consistently reinforced throughout regular school days, as well as when dealing with incidents. Our system for behaviour is set and agreed by the school, governors, parents and children. We have our behaviour steps that support our school expectations. Children understand the consequences of not behaving appropriately. Each class has a class charter to share the rules and these are displayed in all classes and understood by everybody. Children are rewarded not only for achievement and lessons and social times but also when they demonstrate our Christian Values.
Pupils are taught the value and reasons behind laws, that they govern and protect us, the responsibilities that this involves and the consequences when laws are broken. Visits from the authorities such as the police, fire service etc, are regular activities within our school calendar to help reinforce messages.
The school works closely with the community PSCO to ensure the children understand the role of the police to support law and order in our community. We use restorative justice techniques to resolve conflicts between children.
Individual Liberty
Pupils are actively encouraged to make their own choices at our school, knowing they are in a safe and supportive environment. As a school we provide boundaries for our children to make choices safely through the provision of a safe environment and a planned curriculum.
The pupils are encouraged to take responsibility for their actions, by referencing all actions against the behaviour steps
We have a strong anti-bullying culture in school and issues are treated seriously and addressed quickly.
The school celebrates each child's individual strengths and passions, inside and outside of school. The children are encouraged to know, understand and exercise their rights and personal freedoms through;

Respect
Our school ethos is based on our Christian Values such as respect and responsibility and these values determine how we live as a community at school. Collective Worship is based also based on these values and are central to how we expect everyone to live and learn at our school.
In achieving the GOLD Mark for sport our school recognises the importance and value of good sporting ethics and behaviour. Children are reminded to show mutual respect towards other players, professionals and supporters at all times.

Tolerance
This is achieved through enhancing pupils understanding of their place in a culturally diverse society and by giving them opportunities to experience diversity in our local community, which is largely white British.
Collective Worship and discussions involving prejudices have been followed up and supported by the learning in RE and PSHE.
We have a Global Citizenship coordinator in our schools, they promote the children's understanding of the diverse world we live in.
