Computing
At Staplegrove Church School, our Computing curriculum is based around the three main strands of:
- Computer science
- Information technology
- Digital literacy, including online safety
Computing is taught using iPads to develop knowledge and skills in the above strands, focusing on an approach of design, apply, refine, evaluate and share (DARES). We focus on the following strands: presentation, data handling, coding and computational thinking.
We teach Computing because it provides children with opportunities to:
- Understand and apply fundamental principles and concepts of computer science – for example using logic and data representation.
- Analyse problems in computational terms – for example identifying problems in a written programme or code (debugging).
- Have repeated practical experience of writing computer programmes.
- Be responsible, competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology.
- Use technology to support their learning in other curriculum areas.
- Understand how to use online technologies responsibly, including an awareness of potential harms and how to respond to these.
- Develop the skills necessary to engage with the ever-changing role of technology in their lives, both now and in the future.
The Staplegrove child will be able to use and express themselves and develop their ideas through information communication technology at a suitable level and be active participants in the digital world.
