Key information
- P.E is on a Thursday so please send your child to school in their P.E kit.
- We expect children to read daily and add to their reading journal. All of the information for this is on the inside of their journal. Here is the link to Accelerated Reader if children want to quiz on their books at home -Renaissance Learning Login
- A spelling rule will be sent home weekly. These words, along with others which follow the same spelling pattern, will appear in dictated sentences which is how we will assess the children's understanding.
- We use TT Rockstars to practise our times tables, here is the link for children to practise at home - Times Tables Rock Stars: Play (ttrockstars.com)

What a super week we have had!English
This week we have begun a new English writing sequence based on the 'Lighthouse Keeper', which is a short animated film based on a man who on a dark and stormy night drops and smashes the light for the lighthouse and endangers the whole island as a large ship comes sailing towards the community unknowingly. We were gripped and will share the ending next week!
Maths
In Maths our focus this week has been algebra. The children have enjoyed the satisfaction of solving problems and recognising that despite being a little bit intimidated by the letters representing numbers initially, once they had the tools, they enjoyed working out the problems. A number of children on Friday announced, "I love algebra!"
Science
In Science we began our new topic on Living Things and their Habitats. We looked at how Scientists use classification to group different species within a genus and had a go at this ourselves. We focussed on using Scientific language.
Don't forget next week is Science Week and to bring in your investigations for display in the hall.
In addition to all of this we begun our new reading book 'All Aboard the Empire Windrush'. We had lots of discussion on exploitation - what it means and what we can do to support anyone who may have been exploited in PSHE; we continued with our netball skills and playing small sided games in PE (focussing this week on footwork) and ran lots of laps for our Golden Mile!

World Book Day!
The highlight of this week was without doubt World Book Day. The children celebrated by wearing a wide variety of different costumes including an Ompa Lumpa, Willy Wonka, Harry Potter, a number of footballers, characters from Lottie Brooks, Thing 1 and Thing 2 and lots more!
It was such a fun day celebrating, sharing, talking about and immersing ourselves in the world of reading and books. Here are some of the things we got up to:
- A booky and footy quiz online with lots of famous footballers and authors including Katherine Rundell the author of one of our favourite class books 'Rooftoppers'.
- Hunt the book characters - the children had a wonderful time with Elm Class finding all the different characters around the school. (the adults were so impressed with how kind, thoughtful, encouraging and enthusiastic the children were with the younger children).
- Book sharing and discussion with Cherry Class.
- Decoration of our class door with quotes and characters.
- Finding our class book by following the clues.

What a pleasure it has been to welcome back Willow Class to school. The children have returned to school after half term showing a fantastic attitude to all their learning; kindness towards others and great determination to succeed in all areas of the curriculum. - In Maths this week the focus has been on arithmetic and measure. The children have been converting units of measure and solving problems based on measure.
- The focus in English has been on grammar this week; looking closely at different clauses - main clauses and subordinate clauses.
- In Science we had a lot of fun this week with our focus on adaptation and evolution. We conducted 2 investigations - one on peppered moths and how natural selection meant at different times different moths were better adapted and thrived. The second investigation was a made up 'Zwimble Land' where everyone created their own dogs and as generations went on different features meant different zwimble dogs were better suited to their environment. It was really fun and interesting to see which dogs were best suited to 'Zwimble Land'.
Week ending Friday 13th February 2026
In Willow Class we have had an exciting last 2 weeks of the half term. The children have had the opportunity to learn how to cycle safely both in enclosed environments and out and about on the road. ‘ I never knew it would be so much fun to cycle around our playground and how much I would learn! ’ said one member of Willow Class to Mrs. Reed. The cycling instructor commented on how polite, keen and focussed the children were; which is of great credit to them. Alongside this, learning in our classroom has continued: with a focus on BIDMAS in Maths (please ask your children what this means!); completing our description of Skellig (the main character in our story); writing a persuasive letter to Gideon Amos (our local MP); learning about the ‘big stories’ in the Bible and an exciting and informative session in the Science Dome focussing on Charles Darwin and evolution.
