Physical Education (P.E.)
Physical education at Staplegrove will enable children to develop the skills and knowledge so that they are physically confident in supporting their health and fitness. We recognise the important link between physical health and children being enabled to lead healthy, active lives both now and in the future. At Staplegrove Church School, our vision for Physical Education is rooted in our Christian values of respect, perseverance, courage and community. We believe that every child is uniquely created in the image of God and should be given the opportunity to flourish physically, socially and emotionally through high-quality physical education.
We teach physical education because it provides children with the opportunity to:
- - Learn and then apply the key skills of a range of sports and activities – gymnastics, dance, athletics, games and outdoor and adventurous activities.
- - Develop the competence needed to excel in a broad range of physical activities.
- - Develop sportsmanship and a supportive language to use with peers.
- - Compete in sport and other activities which build character and help to embed our school values.
- - Succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically demanding activities.
- - Be physically active for sustained periods of time.
- - Develop the ability to swim 25m, a key life skill.
Children at Staplegrove will be comfortable in having a go at any activity, taking their enthusiasm for and benefits of physical activity with them to secondary school and beyond.
